2013 D.O.G. Team Recipients

Heather Lampman and Sonny

Heather and K9 Sonny have concentrated the majority of their therapy work with follow up visits to Chardon High School this past year following the February 2012 shootings.  They are a part of the Extra Mile Ministries K9 Crisis Response Team.   Heather and Sonny have also spent time at a children’s hospital.

The Midwest Regional Director of the Extra Mile Ministries K9 Crisis Response team had this to say:

Heather was willing to do what needed to be done both at the school and in her training, preparation, and follow-up to be able to best benefit Chardon High School and their unique needs during this time.  She and K9 Sonny spent countless hours in the school, in training, and at community events.  Heather and K9 Sonny have significantly contributed to the Chardon community in a profound and unforgettable way.  Her selflessness during this time and her willingness to share her dog with Chardon High School is truly remarkable and worthy of so much more than I, or this award, can ever give to her.

Laurie Schlossnagle and Dolly

Laurie and K9 Dolly are active in the Extra Mile Ministries’ K9 Crisis Response Team where Laurie is the Regional Director.  January 2013 they responded to the school shooting in Newtown, CT and spent 4 days with first responders, children, and the people in the community.  They are also involved in local reading programs at area libraries.  Laurie and Dolly also visit the Ronald McDonald House in Salt Lake City, Utah, on a regular basis.

A fellow team member of the Extra Mile Ministries K9 Crisis Response team has this to say:

I will be forever grateful to Laurie for her efforts to make our ongoing work at Chardon so successful at providing comfort to the students, staff and community members there.  In addition to doing therapy dog/crisis response visits, Laurie trains and evaluates teams interested in doing therapy and/or crisis response work. She is incredibly generous with her time, knowledge and support for every therapy/crisis response team. She and her therapy dog, Dolly, are exemplary representatives of C-WAGS, therapy dog teams and Extra Mile Ministries K9 Crisis Response Team!

Linda Alberda and Hardy

Linda and K9 Hardy have continued to be very actively involved at Chardon High School and the Chardon community this year as part of the K9 Chaplains / K9 Crisis Response Team.  They also responded to the bombing at the Boston Marathon where they spent two days with first responders and the community.  Linda and Hardy continue to spend time with the local library reading program also.

The Midwest Regional Director of the Extra Mile Ministries K9 Crisis Response team had this to say:

She and K9 Hardy have significantly contributed to several communities in a profound and unforgettable way.  Her selflessness and her willingness to share her dog with others is truly remarkable. We have continued to work together at Chardon High School and we had the distinct honor and privilege of responding on the same team to Newtown, Connecticut in January 2013, a trip Linda and her daughter coordinated and implementedLinda and K9 Hardy have represented Extra Mile Ministries, C-WAGS, and therapy dogs in general in extraordinary and momentous ways.  I am proud and humbled to have Linda and Hardy as active and valuable members of my crisis response team.

In addition to the D.O.G. Team Award, Linda  has earned the
President’s Volunteer Service Bronze Award.*
